EDUCATION

Since 1947 Valley Baptist Academy has had a vision for the Christian education of the people of the Rio Grande Valley (RGV), and today Valley Baptist Missions Education Center (VBMEC) continues to move forward in that mission. VBMEC is very excited to be in a unified effort with Wayland Baptist University to bring an accredited Certificate of Christian Ministry program to the RGV.

OUR EDUCATION PARTNERS

Wayland Baptist University (WBU) is fully accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award degrees at the associate, baccalaureate, and master's levels. They have been furthering Christian education since 1906. While the roots of WBU reach back to Plainview, TX they have expanded to include twelve additional campuses in the United States and an educational partnership with the Kenya Baptist Theological College. All of these campuses are committed to the Mission Statement of the University: “ Wayland Baptist University exists to educate students in an academically challenging, learning-focused, and distinctively Christian environment for professional success, lifelong learning, and service to God and humankind.” The University is especially interested in helping Christian churches and leaders increase their knowledge, deepen their spiritual commitment, and improve their ministry skills for more effective service.

The Certificate of Christian Ministry is approved for use in relation to any of the various Wayland campuses, the program is administered by the Certificate of Christian Ministry office at Wayland Baptist University-San Antonio.

The Certificate of Christian Ministry is an 18 semester hour program of study that is designed, in general, to meet the needs of (1) those who have sensed a call to Christian ministry, who may or may not yet be involved in providing ministerial leadership, but who, for whatever reason, have been unable to engage in the more traditional approaches to study, and (2) those lay leaders who desire to deepen their personal spiritual lives, increase their knowledge of the Bible, and become even more effective in their ministries. Anyone, therefore, regardless of educational background, may apply for admission. The program offers studies in both the Old and New Testaments, Christian doctrine, biblical interpretation, preaching and teaching, church administration, church history, Christian leadership, and personal discipleship. Also included are studies in Christian ethics, different areas of Christian ministry, bi-vocational ministry, worship, missions, and evangelism.

Continued education for Pastors and Leaders

VBMEC uses of its facilities and properties for retreats by all Christian groups, denominational agencies, and collegiate organizations whose purposes and objectives are compatible with the statements of beliefs and purpose of VBMEC. VBMEC also allows non-church groups, schools, service clubs, and other organizations who agree to observe the rules and policies of VBMEC to use its facilities. Throughout the fall, winter and spring, many groups have found VBMEC to be an ideal location for retreats, training seminars, conferences, team-building experiences, and special events. In keeping with the purpose of VBMEC, the encampment administrator has the authority to schedule or refuse the use of VBMEC‘S facilities.
